Printed Cashmere Scarf by Menu

Printed Cashmere Scarf by Menu

$276.00 CAD

The geometric pattern of this oblong scarf is hand-printed on a super-soft, fine-gauge cashmere-wool blend, just as Kristine Engelbrecht of A Hint of Neon designed it for Danish house Menu. And just as the Nepalese craftspeople are know for in their work.

The Copenhagen designer, known for her blankets and other handcrafted textile-centric products, created this as part of the Nepal Projects capsule collection, an initiative created by Danish house Menu.

The fair-trade program merges Scandinavian design with Nepali craft and textiles with the aim of changing the lives of girls and young women in what is one of the poorest areas of the world by training and employing them. Some 15,000 Nepali girls are trafficked each year, the majority across the border into India where they are often forced into prostitution and consequently disowned by their families. The initiative also benefits hundreds of weavers, tailors and other local craftspeople in the Kathmandu area. Menu is realizing this in partnership with Danida, a development co-op set up by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark that aims to help people out of poverty by promoting human rights and economic growth.
